"I come from a humble family that has been involved in public service for as long as I can remember. I want to serve the people of Uganda. We need to create more living opportunities, improve the girl child education and awareness, and make gender debate a top priority. With nearly a decade of government experience, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate complicated governmental agencies, and get things done."

AREAS OF CONCERN

EDUCATION

In education we know from experience that most girls when out of school for extended periods may not return to school when classes reopen. An entire generation of school goers could suffer damage especially when those who lose incomes deprioritise their education.

Kyegegwa district hosts two refugee camps with close to 35000 refugees. But the plight of refugee women and girls requires strategic interventions. From hygiene, education, welfare, privacy to rights it's wanting. Join hands with me as I delve into this intervention.

“We also need to ensure that there is a government primary school at every parish, a seed secondary school at every sub-county and a vocational school at every constituency,” says MP Flavia Kabahenda.

THE GIRL CHILD

It’s sad that most men see every girl even that baby of 3 months as a wife/sex object. I urged parents to invest more time to empower their children especially the girl child. Secondly, In any crisis the young and the most vulnerable suffer disproportionately. It's our responsibility to prevent suffering and protect the well being and health Of the children.

“While celebrating the day of the girl child, I realized that 434 girls under 18 years are pregnant in Kyegegwa District and sadly 120 had been abused.

HEALTHCARE

In this time of the COVID19 Pandemic, Woman MP says setting aside a time to mobilize Ugandans on vaccination would be a good move if the country is to fight COVID-19 and have the country open up.

I urge teachers to go for vaccination to enable quick opening of schools, staying home is not safe as well.

She said girls where being defiled, citing a case in Kabarole district where a 14 year old girl recently gave birth to a baby boy after being defiled by the father.

SOCIAL PROTECTIONS FOR WOMEN FOR GENDER EQUALITY AND EQUITY

We sought to accelerate the enactment and implementation of existing social protection policies for women in formal and informal employment for gender equality and equity.

While both women and men face a number of risks and are entitled to social protection, women face multiple and intersecting forms of oppression which intensifies the risks they face. Because of patriarchal dictates, women are seen as caregivers, relegated to performing unpaid domestic duties which prevent them from securing their own income, making them susceptible to shocks. Given that Uganda’s major social protection systems are contributory and mainly accessed through paid formal employment, women have less access to them given their low labour force participation. Juggling work with women’s maternal functions, during and immediately after childbirth, without maternity and childcare benefits effectively ejects women from the workforce. The conversation on social protections is important to ensure that women are protected as they face a higher risk of falling into poverty. Because the promotion and protection of workers’ rights is of utmost importance in creating a robust and productive economy contributing to a country’s national development, their welfare should be paramount in the planning process.

TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Tourism is a unique export product consumed from the originating market and has multiple consumers. I call upon all stake holders to harness domestic tourism observing that it was embarrassing for foreigners to know us more than we know ourselves. I appreciate that the cost of conservation is enormous as the conservation agency fights off rampant poaching and other illegal activities like encroachment on the wildlife habitats, maintenance of the roads and trails, wildlife health interventions, research and monitoring plus the control of invasive species and restocking extinct species.
I appeal to UWA to move from a culture of law enforcement strategies to a strategy of conservation through appealing to the communities and involving a wider spectrum of stake holders to appreciate the value and benefits of conservation.
I commend UWA for the introduction of marketing methods including the cashless payment method which will enhance the security of the tourists, tour operators and the authority staff from carrying huge sums of hard cash while transcending the wilderness.

GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

The government has instead left the fight to non-state actors like Action Aid .Even the police that is supposed to implement the laws is not well funded. We now want the government to commit more funding to GBV shelters and rescue centres across the country.
